The primary function of a stop valve is to start, stop, or throttle the flow of fluid. It allows you to isolate a section of the pipeline or plumbing system to perform maintenance, repairs, or to shut off the flow completely. Stop Valves are typically installed at strategic points along the pipeline or plumbing system to provide control and convenience.
Stop valves come in different designs, but the most common type is the Globe valve. Globe valves consist of a movable disk (or plug) and a stationary ring seat. When the valve is open, the disk is lifted away from the seat, allowing fluid to flow through. When the valve is closed, the disk is pushed against the seat, completely blocking the flow.
Another type of stop valve is the Gate Valve. Gate valves use a flat or wedge-shaped gate that is lowered or raised to start or stop the flow of fluid. When the gate is fully lowered, it obstructs the flow, and when it is fully raised, it allows fluid to pass through.
